Friday, August 17th 2012: Blackout

TONIGHT’S SHOW ($5):

  • Blackout makes good old-fashioned stoner sludge doom metal.  Dark, drawn-out snail-paced evil jams.  With a chick on drums!  Everything your mom’s looking for in a metal band to bring home to her.  Listen here.

.
  • Marching Teeth‘s bio says they are “a 3 piece experimental metal band. All 3 members moved to Brooklyn, NY from Louisville Ky. The band was formed by ex-members of Erchint, Enkindel, and Church of Astronaut.”  We can’t find any of their music online so we can’t tell you any more than that.
.
.
  • Williamsburg’s own Gentlemen will take the stage tonight.  If you ever drink at Union Pool then you probably know all three members (Dave, Frank and Taylor).  We know we do.  We saw them play The Grand Victory a month or so ago, and we loved it.  They play ear-splitting dark raging punk rock.  Check out this video for a sample of what you’re in for.
.
  • Brooklyn all-girl trio Flown make metal-influenced post-punk drone rock.  We hear bits of Slint mixed with Linda Perhacs and the soundtrack to the original animated Lord Of The Rings film from back in the 80s.  These tunes are equal parts psyche and doom.  Listen here.
.
.
  • Trapperkeeper make straight up self-indulgent pop punk.  Take their one minute and nine second-long song “Only Dicks Don’t Like Green Day.”  Fast, hurting, brief, cloyingly catchy and anachronistic.  Like a 1996 emo kid’s case of the clap.  In a good way!  Seriously!  Listen here.
