Friday, August 31st 2012: Cinema Cinema

TONIGHT’S SHOW ($9):

  • CMJ says of Cinema, Cinema, “Pounding two piece…created a musical melting pot of sonic soundscapes, avant-pop, and good old-fashioned rock songs…an atmospheric journey into the art of sound…filled to the brim with floor-trembling drums, sleazy guitars, and gut-wrenching vocals that garner fist-pumping status…overall vibe is dingy and dark, evoking imagery of a New York City back alley in the early 70′s.” Listen here.
  • Diagnostics do 90s-influenced proggy indie proto-emo right.  Angular, intelligently written with call-and-response shouts and a steady flow of energy and unresolved tension.  Watch videos here.

  • From a post on tonight’s Facebook event page:  “The Space Merchants is a new project from Michael Guggino (Mount Olympus, This Radiant Boy, Barking Spiders).  He has a new band and is exploring his psychedelic side.  Think Spacemen 3, Lungfish, The Black Angels, Will Oldham.  He has assembled a motley crew of musicians whose talents see no limits. Including members Jon Lane and Jeff Saint Filmer from the Brooklyn band Bröhammer.  Your mind will be expanded and then blown.”  Listen here.
  •  Holy sweat opens.
