Sunday, February 17th 2013: 4PM-Screaming At Bears // 7PM-Maninblack // 10:30PM-Kill Kill Kill (Punk & Hardcore Vinyl)

THERE ARE THREE (3!) EVENTS TODAY:

(

4PM TODAY (no cover):

  • Screaming at Bears: “In the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York, Scartoon Network found himself surrounded.  The trees were dense; the bears were denser. He turned to Soup Tooth, nodded, and the two began to bellow. Their voices fulminating forged so formidable a force that the bears ursinely expired. They returned to Brooklyn.  Garrett was also there.”  Listen here.
  • Clean Girls is a noise rock band that started in Williamsburg, Virginia in 2008, but now finds itself stomping around Brooklyn, NY.”  “vocals without a shred of tenderness” (Ride Into Sound).  “Slint on 4Loko” (Sean).  “A noble band” (Colby’s friend).  Listen here.
    .
  • Brooklyn two-piece Tough/Luck give us infectious droney indie rock that makes us want to move.  It’s like a guitar-based LCD Soundsystem meets an Archer Prewitt convalescing from strep while stoned and noodling away a cloudy afternoon in his sick bed.  Listen here.
    .

7PM TONIGHT ($8):

  • Maninblack:  “Aggressive, progressive Oi!, UK ’77 style Punk and Skinhead Reggae with an electronic edge from New York City, fronted by André Schlesinger, former singer of US / NYC Oi legend The Press, and under the managerial guidance of UK Punk pundit Garry Bushell, Maninblack is a hybrid of back engineered hi-tech Synth and overpowered lo-fi Streetpunk, soulful and abrasive, provocative and intelligent. Maninblack brings Oi into the 21st Century with a unique sound and an authentic lineage, revolution from below and straight out of Babylon!”  Listen here.
  • Hopeless Otis:  “Hopeless Otis is a punk band from Queens, New York City.  Formed in July 2009, they aim to bring positivity to the forefront of punk rock, singing about solutions instead of problems.  In January of 2010 they released their first EP, titled Something Positive, and released their debut album A Better Place to Be in July 2011.”  Listen here.
    .
  • Family Fun:  “It is immediately obvious from the Family Fun live show there is nothing else they would rather be doing, certainly not clearing debts, returning borrowed vehicles, or completing eBay auctions. Hardcore threaded with the theatrical, punk rock peppered with pop insensibilities, FF draws fervently from a gorge of culture and history whether it be Born Against, Dinosaur Jr., Agnostic Front, Electric Light Orchestra, Iggy Pop, or Joan Rivers.”  Listen here.
  • The Shipwrecks:  “The Shipwrecks started as four dudes in a dusty attic sharing a passion for surfing tubes, riding powder, and drinking beers that one day had the bright idea to start a surf rock band.  After jamming a few times we realized that while we might sing ABOUT surfing, our sound was more of a surf-rock-punk-reggae-funk-folk, drunk sing-a-long, drink and dance ’til you fall over musical party!  Over the past 2-3 years of playing live we have amassed a solid following in LI and NYC & continue to impress bar owners with our fan’s propensity to drink the night away with us.”  Listen here.
