Thursday, February 28th 2013: Netherlands / D O N ‘ T / Low Fat Getting High / BANGLADEAFY!

7PM TONIGHT ($8):

  • Time Out New York says, The Netherlands do a kind of futuristic biker rock, featuring lurch-happy riffs and a singer who slathers his voice in weird effects. The trio’s live show is a fuzzed-out blast of anti-intellectual glee.”  Listen here.

  • D O N ’ T“Aaron Lazar, ex-lead singer of metal surf outfit The Giraffes, is on guitar and vocals, and Mitchell King, ex-drummer of Beat The Devil, is on the skins. Bring earplugs, because despite being a two-piece this band is loud. King drives the songs with busy drumbeats that pair nicely with Lazar’s simple riffs, and Lazar’s vocal melodies are similar to his Giraffes style, but tinged with a kind of Buddy Holly twang” (Brooklyn Based).  Listen here.
  • Low Fat Getting High are one of our top favorite area bands.  Fast, noisy and shouty.  We’d call it punk but the vocalist is too talented.  Like Chris Cornell’s punk little cousin or something.  Shades of Bleach-era Nirvana.  A trio with muscle and energy.  Listen here.

  • BANGLADEAFY!:  “The rapid, forceful, and intensely technical rhythms of this two-piece stem from a common love for Squarepusher and the members’ respective abilities to bring such complexity to live instruments. While this evokes images of Primus, it’s far less musically esoteric. You could breeze through a Bangladeafy set and find yourself thrashing, or just counting the meters, or both simultaneously. The listener need only an affinity for speed” (Abdullah of MTVDesi.com).  Listen here.
