Thursday, July 26th 2012: Uncle Monsterface

  • Uncle Monsterface says “They Might Be Giants Meets Rush and Has a Baby That Plays With Puppets,” and they are that baby.  Which actually kind of sums them up, but only because it already implies Sparks and Atom & His Package— both of which come through as influences as well.  Listen here.

  • The Planes make the same shuffling slacker rock that made us all love Pavement back in the days when schlubby clothes and adopting a lack-of-work-ethic appearance seemed like the perfect rebellious middle finger to mainstream culture and its accompanying abhorrent music.  The Planes aren’t as playful as Pavement, which is only to say they’d like to be taken a little more seriously.  We take them seriously.  Listen here.
  • Little,Big say they make “noisy, catchy pop for dancing to in your most awesome pajamas.”  They’re a girl / guy duo.  Based in Brooklyn.  They take fuzzed out bass lines, Casio beats and all things cheese and melt them into a tasty glob of gooey fun.  Listen here.

  • Attack.wav make, in their own words, “dance music for shut-ins,” and “odd art pop.”  They’re like a maniacally happy Dragonforce played all on synths with breathy new wave vocals crossed with original NES game soundtracks.  Listen here.
