Wednesday, September 19th 2012: Comadrone / Mattison / Huntronik / DT Robot

TONIGHT’S SHOW ($7):

  • We’re happy to have Comadrone at The Grand Victory tonight.  No, not that one.  No, not that one either.  This one.  Also known as Paul Wheeler’s solo project.  Expect droning, experimental electronic noise that may or may not have a discernable beat.  Watch some live videos on his website (scroll down when you get there).
.
.
  • Mattison— a languid trio fronted by and named for chanteuse Kate Mattison— are sexy, sultry, slow and sparse.  Their sound slinks to your ears in a sheer nightgown, a blend of Peggy Lee and Angelo Badalamenti.  Listen here.

.
  • We want DT Robot to be related to R2D2, but it turns out they’re closer to Syd Barrett than sci fi.  They favor the angular tonal shifts of late 60s psych rock, but in a sleepy mellow way.  Take some hallucinogens and listen here.

.
  • Brooklyn duo Huntronik take quirk-rock and turn-of-the-millennium art-jungle and smash it together like a messy PB&J sandwich.  At times they sound like μ-Ziq or Aphex Twin, at others like Atom and His Package, Sparks or Ween.  Listen here.
